|
|
1. Brekeke Product Name and Version:
2. Java version:
3. OS type and the version: Windows 2008 Server
4. UA (phone), gateway or other hardware/software involved:
5. Your problem (Question):
Hi all,
I want to move Brekeke SIP server from Physical server to a VM. I have been trying to search around and also Google around but I cannot find any details for the recommended spec when running it on VM. Max concurrent calls can go between 60 calls to 100 calls.
The only 2 information I can find is below:
1.
http://www.brekeke-sip.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=6122&sid=ec488ce0e4672f3f58f12cffce3ac74b
2. There is a bit information on Brekeke Wiki:
Recommended hardware specification and Brekeke SIP Server performance
For system requirements, we always recommend high spec machine for Brekeke SIP Server.
Check the data in the following table about max concurrent sessions handled by Brkeke SIP Server with different spec
Max concurrent serssions:
Single Core 3GHz RTP relay on : 150
Single Core 3GHz RTP relay off : 2000
Dual Core 3GHz RTP relay on : 250
Dual Core 3GHz RTP relay off : 3000
Quad Core 3GHz RTP relay on : 500
Quad Core 3GHz RTP relay off : 6000
When SDN (OpenFlow) is used for RTP relay, the performance result will be close to the case of RTP relay off in above chart.
The system requirements can vary depending upon the network architecture, the usage frequency and concurrent sessions per second.
Thank you. _________________ Regards,

Are you planning to use own VM environment? or 3rd party service such as Amazon EC2?
Are you providing a phone service? How many average concurrent calls are they?
Do you need RTP-relay? |

Hi Redroof,
It will be on own VM environment.
Yes, phone voice service to get the call connected from IVR system to call center. roughly on average I would say about 60 concurrent calls.
I don't think need RTP relay, currently it is set as Auto.
Thank you. _________________ Regards,

Andrew,
60 concurrent calls are not big loads.
I suppose you can use any VM for your requirements. |

Hi Redroof,
What will be the minimum spec should I have for the VM?
It has Windows 2008 server OS.
Also sorry I should mentioned before, currently it has other application running on it for contact center which I think using roughly 30% of the CPU. This VM has 1 CPU Intel E5640 @2.67GHz with 4GB RAM.
I'm concerned if that may impact voice quality?
Thank you. _________________ Regards,

Are you planning to share the same VM guest for both Brekeke SIP Server and the contact center application?
It is possible but I recommend you use dedicated VM guest for each.
Also I recommend you assign more CPU such as 4 or 8. |

We utilize VMs for our all the time for our installs with other vendors integrated to brekeke on the same VM. Call loads vary but can get as high as 50 to 100 concurrent. Vendors include NurseCall, FireAlarm, Security, Etc..
With RTP on we typically spec 8 CPU with 8GB RAM or higher depending on growth potential
With RTP off we typically spec 4 CPU with 6GB RAM or higher depending on growth potential
With all we either build or spec and ask for 1GB dedicated of networking resources with an isolated storage environment as well. That is the one that can bite you at times, having a shared storage environment in a VM house can be detrimental to performance no matter what your CPU/RAM resources are. |

Thank you Neils21 for the input.
Yes I agree with what you saying. That is also my concern is in a VM the shared resources may impact the voice quality. _________________ Regards,
